Here with a haunting new volume is Armenia’s Ties, whose musical setpieces have a dusky, stark tone that lingers throughout a varied and charismatic offering. Ties’ approach is hard to pin down, with some compositions finding musicality in abstract places, always able to venture into unfamiliar territory.
